Last week the Devereux Slough opened up for the first time this winter season.

Runners, beach combers, and bird watchers all noticed the new river running from the lagoon into the ocean.

The exotic shrubs included Acaica, Myoporum, Tamarisk, and Pittosporum. Other invasive species included wild radish, black mustar fennel, Himalayan Blackberry, New Zealand Spinach, Italian Ryegrass, Harding Grass, and Italian . Devereux Slough Acres of prime, beachfront property has been allocated to protecting natural vegetation and sea animals. The slough is part of West Campus and is managed as part of the University California Reserve system.


It sits within what is known as Coal Oil Point Reserve, which is open to the public. However there is no public parking.
